French street stencil artist Miss.Tic dies

Famous French street artist Miss.Tic has died in Paris at the age of 66 from an unspecified disease, the BBC reported, citing a statement from her family.

Miss.Tic is considered one of the pioneers of street stencil art. She was born in the Montmartre district of Paris in 1956. Her father was an immigrant from Tunisia and her mother was from Normandy in northern France.

The artist began painting graffiti when she moved to California in the 1980s. Before that, she studied applied arts and street theater. In 1985, she returned to Paris, where she continued to paint on facades.

Miss.Tic 3

In 1997, she was arrested on charges of damaging state property. After this incident, Miss.Tic began to seek permission from the owners of the walls before leaving her graffiti there.

Miss.Tic’s signature style is graffiti with a dark-haired woman and a quote by her side. Most often, I worked in two colors – red and black.
