Sterilization incident at CHR Metz-Thionville: non-urgent operations finally suspended until Friday

Since Friday April 19, non-urgent operations have been suspended after an equipment sterilization accident. According to information from France Bleu Lorraine Nord, this is an incident involving a subcontracted service. “Non-compliant products” were detected “in softener tanks” necessary for sterilization, explained Saturday on France Bleu Lorraine Nord Doctor Grégory Rondelot. The sterilization chain came to a standstill and forced the hospital to cancel interventions.

The hospital focused on emergencies only with already sterilized equipment, but also thanks to an agreement established with a neighboring clinic. “When one of the two sterilizations is in difficulty, it can go and sterilize its equipment in the neighboring structure,” Dominique Peljak, general director of CHR Metz-Thionville, explained to France Bleu Lorraine Nord.
