The Emirates Mobility Research Center participates in enrichment sessions and innovative projects in… "drift x"

Abu Dhabi, April 26 / WAM / The Emirates Mobility Research Center of the UAE University, as an academic partner, is participating in the DriftX global event, dedicated to smart and self-driving mobility innovations and solutions, and their uses in the sustainable air, land and sea transport sector.

The Department of Municipalities and Transport in Abu Dhabi is hosting the event, in partnership with the Abu Dhabi Investment Office, the Smart and Autonomous Vehicle Industry Park (SAVI), and Bayanat Company, at Baniyas Circuit on the 25th and 26th of this month, coinciding with Abu Dhabi Sustainable Transport Week.

Dr. Hamad Abdullah Al Jasmi, Director of the Emirates Center for Mobility Research at the UAE University, confirmed that the Center’s participation in the event comes from its role as a strategic academic partner to support national goals based on enhancing dialogue and cooperation with stakeholders in the mobility sector, and to contribute to shaping the features of the future of sustainable mobility. And also to consolidate Abu Dhabi’s position as a global capital for sustainable mobility.

He added that through participation, the Center seeks to introduce its projects and scientific research in which researchers participate, in addition to participating in dialogue seminars, and strengthening the bonds of cooperation between academic and industrial circles in the UAE, based on the Center’s experience dating back 20 years in the field of applied research and consultations that were carried out in cooperation. With various entities in the mobility sector, and working to build an ideal Emirati model to achieve the UAE’s vision towards creating a knowledge-based economy through multidisciplinary research and innovation.

The center’s participation comes to showcase its capabilities in employing computer vision and artificial intelligence for traffic safety uses, and to evaluate the condition of roads by displaying a live model for the automatic detection of cases of busyness on the road, in addition to providing the opportunity for visitors to the university’s platform to try the model to view the results in real time.

The center organized three sessions on the first day of the event, which included a student debate on the feasibility of switching to replacing traditional vehicles with electric vehicles, a student debate on the use of autonomous vehicles, and a dialogue session on the future of autonomous vehicles with the participation of Dr. Fadi Al-Najjar, associate professor in the Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering. At the UAE University, Professor Dr. Abdul Rahman Lakkas, Professor at the Department of Computer Science and Network Engineering at the UAE University, and Professor Dr. Khawla Al Kaabi, Professor at the Department of Geography at the UAE University, and the session was moderated by Engineer Loujain Kuruvachalil, a researcher at the Emirates Center for Mobility Research at the UAE University.

On the second day of the exhibition’s activities, three dialogue sessions were organized on the future of electric vehicles with the participation of Professor Dr. Hussein Sharif, Head of the Green Mobility Team at the Emirates Mobility Research Center, and Dr. Manar Al Mazrouei, Assistant Professor in the Department of Electro-Mechanical Engineering at the UAE University. They were interviewed by Dr. Luqman Ali, a researcher in Center.

A dialogue session was also organized on the future of education and the labor market for sustainable mobility, in which Professor Dr. Ahmed Murad, Associate Vice President for Scientific Research at the UAE University, and Dr. Hamad Al Jasmi, Director of the Emirates Center for Mobility Research at the UAE University, participated in which they were interviewed by engineer Nadia Maqsoud, and another dialogue session on research priorities. Traffic safety was attended by Eng. Sumaya Al Neyadi, Head of the Traffic Safety Department at the Integrated Transport Center in Abu Dhabi, Dr. Hamad Al Jasmi, and Dr. Qasim Abdul Rahman, Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering at the UAE University.
