At the beginning of his meeting with the Chinese President, Macron stressed the necessity of the Sino-European dialogue more than ever before

 French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed today, Monday, that the Chinese-European dialogue has become necessary “more than ever,” at the beginning of the ongoing discussions at the Elysee Palace with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, who is… With a state visit to France as part of a European tour that also includes Hungary and Serbia. 

Macron said that the Chinese-European dialogue has become more necessary than ever due to the situation on the international scene. 

Before the start of discussions with the Chinese President and the President of the European Commission in the Elysee, Macron reviewed the topics on the agenda, especially those related to European-Chinese relations, including trade issues, access to markets, conditions for fair competition, and investment. He explained that the war in Ukraine and the latest developments in the situation in the Middle East will also be discussed. 

Macron called for “fair rules for all.” Regarding Chinese-European trade, adding that “the future of our continent will clearly depend on our ability to continue developing and strengthening relations with China in a balanced way.”

For his part, the Chinese President expressed his hope that today’s meeting will strengthen “ “Our desire to work with Europe.” He also stressed that Beijing always attaches great importance to Sino-European relations, considering that “Europe is an important destination for our Chinese development strategy.”

He also expressed his hope that Europe and China, “as two important powers in the world,” will continue to achieve their goal. Working together, dialogue and cooperation, and deepening strategic exchanges. He stressed the importance of enhancing mutual trust and reaching greater consensus in order to establish comprehensive strategic cooperation.

This came at the beginning of a discussion session that brought together the French and Chinese presidents, and the President of the European Commission joined them at the Elysee Palace, to discuss trade issues between China and the European Union.&nbsp

The French President received at the Elysee Palace his Chinese counterpart, who is visiting France at the beginning of his first tour to Europe since the Corona pandemic, which also comes to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral relations between the two countries. 

This afternoon, an official reception will be held for the Chinese President and his wife Peng Liyuan at the Invalides Palace, then Macron and Xi Jinping will meet again at the Elysee Palace, in a bilateral summit to discuss many issues, the most important of which is the war in Ukraine.

After that, the French and Chinese leaders will hold a press conference at the conclusion of their discussions before concluding the first day of the visit with an official dinner in honor of the Chinese President and his wife Peng Liyuan at the Elysee Palace. 

This visit comes, This is the third trip by the Chinese President to France since he assumed power in March 2013, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. It also comes at the beginning of the Chinese President’s first European tour to Europe since the Corona pandemic, which also includes Hungary and Serbia.
