"The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority" Supports the implementation of the national digital accessibility policy

Abu Dhabi, 6 May / WAM / The Communications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority stressed the importance of implementing the principles of the National Policy for Digital Accessibility, which was approved by the Council of Ministers with the aim of enabling various segments of society to obtain various digital services, including people of determination and the elderly.

The national policy for digital accessibility is based on a number of international references and agreements that aim for people of determination to obtain services and information available on the platforms and websites of various institutions in accordance with the principle of equality of opportunity, and to ensure the removal of barriers that prevent them from benefiting from these services and platforms.

This policy also comes in line with the UAE government’s promise for future services, which stipulates that people come first when designing services and policies. The promise also stipulates the necessity of listening to the customer’s voice and providing services of distinctive value and a smooth and proactive experience, regardless of the person’s capabilities or social group. .

This policy contributes to strengthening the UAE’s leadership in the field of digital transformation, as well as to the country’s contribution to the process of sustainable development and the humanitarian goals set by the United Nations in this context and its slogan of “leaving no one behind.”

The policy includes a set of general principles that digital government service providers must adhere to in order to improve smart services and applications so that they are enhanced with technologies that allow people of determination to use and benefit from them like others.

His Excellency Engineer Majid Sultan Al-Mesmar, Director General of the Authority, stressed the importance of implementing the directives and standards contained in this policy, saying that the Authority is fully confident that government agencies will spare no effort in putting this policy into effect as part of their efforts to implement the goals of the “We are the Emirates 2031” vision, which stipulates the establishment of a system Advanced and integrated social empowerment to unleash the capabilities of all Emirati people, and work to build and consolidate the most pioneering and superior government system while adopting the next generation of advanced digital technologies, leading to the smartest, most dynamic and flexible government in the world.

He added that the issuance and implementation of the digital accessibility policy comes in line with the directives of the wise leadership to empower people of determination as they are a dear group of society, and based on the culture of solidarity that characterizes the UAE society.

For his part, His Excellency Eng. Mohammed Ibrahim Al Zarouni, Deputy Director General of the Information and Digital Government Sector, said that the Communications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority “TADRA” is responsible for ensuring the provision of the appropriate digital infrastructure to support digital accessibility and improve the quality of digital services provided to citizens and residents by developing the necessary regulatory framework to ensure the achievement of Policy objectives and their effective implementation.

He added, “In this context, the Authority recently developed a unified design system for government websites, where comprehensive accessibility was adopted as a priority in that system, and the guidelines and principles underlying the Web Access Methodology (WAI) and Web Content Access Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 were followed to guide government agencies.” Federal standards in the UAE to comply with the “AA” level classification.

He said, “In addition, the Authority is working to enhance cooperation between the public and private sectors to encourage investments in digital infrastructure and the development of modern technologies, which enhances digital transformation in the country and contributes to achieving the policy objectives.”

In coordination with the federal government and local governments, the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TRA) is working to develop programs and initiatives that contribute to enhancing digital accessibility and providing digital government services in a comprehensive and effective manner for all segments of society, including people of determination and the elderly.
