Pakistan violates international border, LoC ceasefire for eighth night; Indian forces retaliate

The exchange of fire along the Line of Control (LoC) and international border (IB) in J&K continued for the eighth consecutive night. Indian Army said Pak troops resorted to unprovoked firing along LoC and IB in five J&K areas, prompting retaliation. “During the night of May 1-2, 2025, Pakistani army posts resorted to unprovoked small arms fire from posts across the LoC opposite Kupwara and Baramulla areas of (Kashmir) and Poonch, Naushera, and Akhnoor areas of (Jammu),” a defence spokesperson in Jammu informed. The statement said the “Indian Army responded in a calibrated and proportionate manner”.

The firing of the small arms along the LoC has extended to the IB over the past few days.

Border residents across the region have started cleaning community underground bunkers and started self-defence training of school students as the region is staring at the possibility of war. “We are on the frontlines and have to be prepared for any eventuality. Students are an important asset for the nation and we have to ensure their safety first,” said a school teacher in Uri, of Baramulla in northern Kashmir.

Several villages have complained of a smaller number of bunkers available for their safety.
