Gilgo Beach killer Rex Heuermann cruelly taunted victim’s sister with sick phone calls mocking her murder: Live updates

Gilgo Beach serial killer Rex Heuermann is being sentenced today after he confessed to murdering eight women during his reign of terror on Long Island between 1993 and 2010.
During emotional victim impact statements heard by the court, Melissa Barthelemy’s sister Amanada Fundenberg recalled how she was relentlessly tormented by Heuermann over her dead sister’s phone.
Fundenburg mentioned how after Barthelemy was murdered, the depraved serial killer would call her on her sister’s phone, explaining: ‘You said you raped her in the a** and that I should have seen the look on her face when you raped her in the a**. And that you let her body rot.’
The 62-year-old architect is facing life behind bars after he pleaded guilty to the murders of Sandra Costilla, 28, Valerie Mack, 24, Jessica Taylor, 20, Maureen Brainard-Barnes, 25, Melissa Barthelemy, 24, Megan Waterman, 22, and Amber Costello, 27, in April.
He also admitted to the 1996 murder of an eighth victim, Karen Vergata, 34, for which he has never been charged.
A chilling new mugshot of Heuermann, staring soullessly in green prison garb, was released by the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday afternoon, just one day before the killer is set to be sent to prison for life.
Heuermann has been permitted to wear plain clothes as he listens to the family members of his victims address the court in Riverhead, New York.
