Travis Kelce Shares New Details About Taylor Swift Wedding At Madison Square Garden: Phones, Adam Sandler, Guests
We finally have proper details from the royal wedding of Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift and we can thank the groom’s brother for coaxing out some deets for this ultra-private affair.
On the new season premiere of the brothers’ podcast New Heights, Travis spoke about the couple’s July 3 wedding at Madison Square Garden for the first time in depth, after Jason Kelce welcomed him to the podcast as “finally married”.
“That’s right,” Travis replied. “I’m a married man. Married man.”
The groom said it had been “so much fun” since the big day, before looking back on the event itself. “First of all, the night was a night we’ll never forget,” he said. “Me and Taylor are so thankful for everybody that showed up, from the vows to just seeing everyone, to how much fun we had throughout the entire evening.”
He added: “It was just so magical, man.”
Kelce and Swift reportedly had around 1,000 people at the wedding, which is a number that seems objectively incompatible with the word “intimate”. Yet Travis explained that privacy was exactly what they wanted from the notoriously massive New York venue.
“Thank you to everyone at MSG that allowed us to do this,” he said. “We wanted to do it somewhere where we could have a very intimate and genuine setting without a lot of distractions. We needed it to be a private feel, and MSG went above and beyond to give us that.”
One way they created that feeling was through a no-phones rule. Kelce said seeing everyone properly interact, without being half in the room and half in a camera roll, was one of the night’s highlights.
“With no phones comes people not having to be on guard,” he said. “It makes everyone be in the moment and be present.”
He also reflected on watching their loved ones mingle, describing it as “so cool seeing everyone from my childhood not only mesh with Taylor and her childhood and her family and friends and people that she works with, to who we’ve come in contact with over our career and who we just admire as people and have become good friends with now”. A very sweet sentiment, even if there is probably no normal-person equivalent to watching Paul McCartney meet your old school mates.
Still, the MVP of the day, according to Travis, was Adam Sandler. The actor and comedian got ordained in New York to officiate the ceremony, which Kelce said was delivered in “the very Sandman style”.
“I can’t say thank you to everyone without giving a special thank you to the Adam Sandler,” he said. “He has been just the fucking best person on this planet.”
“For him to be up for getting ordained in the state of New York and marrying me and Taylor in the way he did, and giving us more than we could have ever imagined in that moment, knowing that it was the biggest night of both of our lives, it was absolutely insane, man.”
The only thing Travis would change? More time.
“I wish it could have lasted even longer than it did,” he said. “It felt like it just happened in the blink of an eye.”
