Boxing legend’s accusations of Trump’s ‘unbelievable’ cheating on the golf course resurface weeks after President’s latest win

Accusations of Donald Trump’s penchant for cheating at golf resurfaced weeks after he claimed a pair of victories in a championship.

Earlier this month, the President won the senior and super senior contests at his course in New Jersey.

‘The Winning Shot in the Bedminster Club Championship!’ he wrote alongside a video on Truth Social on August 2.

‘Thank you very much to all of those who participated. I won with a score of 70, and am so honored in that, unlike the rest of the field, I’m given very little time to practice, because I’m focused on many other things.

‘It’s called TALENT, and I have it, and they don’t!’ Trump added before signing off with his name. 

But in the wake of the victories, multiple quotes from many previous journalists and former associates have resurfaced.

Oscar De La Hoya has claimed the President repeatedly bent the rules in his favor during a round they played.

The former professional boxer, who won belts at the super featherweight, lightweight, light welterweight, light middleweight and middleweight classes, recalled Trump moving his ball from the rough and onto the fairway. He also says the President did not count shots that landed in the water.

‘It was unbelievable,’ De La Hoya told the Associated Press in 2016, adding, ‘It shows something about his character.’

‘Golf is a gentleman’s sport. You don’t lie about your score; you don’t lie about moving your ball. It goes to show what we’re dealing with.’ 

De La Hoya is one of multiple people, including Barack Obama, to hint at the President’s golfing dishonesty. Trump has repeatedly denied any claims of cheating.

Veteran sports writer Rick Reilly penned a book diving into the President’s alleged history of cheating in the sport.

Reilly once described a pattern of behavior he saw firsthand. Among these were claims that Trump drove a modified golf cart that went faster than others so he could speed ahead of the rest of his group to move his ball into a better position.

The writer, like De La Hoya, claimed Trump would move his ball into better lies. But Reilly also claims the President would kick opponents’ balls into sand traps.

In the book, published in 2019, Reilly recalled a round in Los Angeles where Trump hit a shot into a pond – only for the ball to magically end up in the fairway. When asked to explain what happened, Reilly claims that Trump replied, ‘Must’ve been the tide.’ 

Reilly is not the only journalist to have made claims about the questionable integrity of Trump’s golf game.

British golf writer Kevin Brown recalled an incident in 2012 during a round at Trump’s Balmedie course in Scotland. He described the President as impatient and eager to move quickly, telling a playing partner to ‘get a move on’ at one point in the round while Brown was admiring the scenery.

Trump previously claimed he has ‘too much integrity’ to cheat at the sport.
