European satellite firm ICEYE sets up India arm, eyes defence deals

The new establishment, ICEYE India, has been announced on National Space Day, with the company saying that it is looking to expand its presence in one of the world’s “most significant defence and space markets”.
“ICEYE’s expanding presence in India reflects the increasing relevance of advanced Earth observation and sovereign intelligence capabilities to the country’s evolving space and defence ecosystem,” a company release stated.
It added that the company’s immediate priority is supporting Indians defence and intelligence customers to access advanced intelligence capabilities
The Indian entity will also serve as the platform for ICEYE’s plans to manufacture satellites in the country. “The company intends to build production capability in-country, serving Indian defence, surveillance, and environmental monitoring requirements through local sourcing, local suppliers, and local engineering talent,” the company stated.
