One of the ongoing debates between the South African commentators and Australian commentator Mark Howard this series has been whether to call Marnus Labuschagne by the Australian or Afrikaans pronunciation of his name.

Lahuschagne’s family moved from South Africa to Australia when he was a boy and he spent most of his youth in Australia, thus is content with the Aussie version of his name.

As Howard tells it, the great Shane Warne told Australian commentators years back that they should use the Australian version – ‘LA-BA-SHAGNE’ which they have kept with ever since, including in South Africa.

But the South African commentators have been very insistent and Howard has adapted using the Afrikaans version of ‘LA-BUSH-SKUCKNEE’.

“You can’t keep everyone happy,” Howard said playfully when discussing this topic during commentary today.
