Deadline on Monday launched the streaming site for its Contenders Television: Documentary event. The showcase, which took place April 18 at the PMC Theater in Los Angeles, featured five buzzy nonfiction titles in the middle of their awards-season campaigns.
The list of docs and creatives at the in-person event in front of key industry and TV Academy voters this weekend included a trio of directors: Rebecca Miller discussing her five-part Apple TV series Mr. Scorseseabout the famed movie director; Director-producer Colin Hanks, who joined with executive producers and kids Chris Candy and Jennifer Candy-Sullivan to talk all things John Candy: I Like Me from Prime Video; and Ally Pankiw, who along with executive producer Cassidy Hartmann sang loud and proud about their Hulu doc Lilith Fair: Building a Mystery.
Also joining the panel event was Oscar winner Octavia Spencer, who is the narrator and executive producer of ID’s chilling Lost Women of Alaska and was joined be fellow executive producer Matt Robins; and the team made up of EPs Kelsey Trainor, Jeff Luini and Harshal Dave along with UCLA women’s basketball coach Cori Close with Fox Sports’ You See L.A.which follows the season before the Bruins captured the NCAA title earlier this month.
