Fox host urges fired Spurs announcer to lawyer up after losing his job for ‘cheating on his girlfriend with player’s sister’

One veteran broadcaster is urging Jacob Tobey to consider all his legal options after being fired as the San Antonio Spurs’ play-by-play announcer amid public allegations of an affair with a player’s sister.
Tobey’s girlfriend accused him of infidelity in an explosive social media post on his own account earlier this week. The first post read: ‘This is my girlfriend of six years. But I cheated on her so feel free to continue following me if you really think I’m a good guy because I’m not. :).’
Another post included photos purportedly showing Tobey and his alleged mistress kissing in a photo booth at a San Antonio bar. Those posts were deleted and his accounts were later switched to private. Since then, Tobey’s now ex-girlfriend has indicated she was behind the inflammatory posts and their relationship is now over.
Now, Fox Sports’ Colin Cowherd is urging Tobey to weigh his legal options carefully.
‘I did learn something new today, that you can get fired in America for cheating on your girlfriend,’ Cowherd said Thursday. ‘I had no idea that was legal. You can get fired in America for cheating on, not your wife, your girlfriend. Feels like he should hire an attorney. That is a crazy story.’
Cowherd did not mention that the allegation of infidelity included the sister of a current Spurs player.

The Daily Mail has sought comment from the Spurs, Tobey and Tobey’s representatives.
Tobey has been calling Spurs games since 2024 and has built up an impressive reputation within the sports media industry.
Last year, he earned a spot on Front Office Sports’ list of rising young play-by-play broadcasters.
Before landing the job with the Spurs, Tobey worked for 9News in Denver and called games for both Fox Sports and the Pac-12 Network. Tobey took over as the Spurs’ full-time play-by-play man from the legendary Bill Land, who retired after the 2024-25 season following a 21-year run in the job.
Despite San Antonio’s status as a small-market franchise, the vacancy with the Spurs is an extremely attractive one, given the team’s recent run to the NBA Finals and core of promising young players, including Victor Wembanyama.
The Spurs were eventually beaten 4-1 in the NBA Finals by the New York Knicks, who won their first title since 1973.
