Michigan Democrat Abdul El-Sayed mocks Trump over Natalie Harp: ‘He will be so mad’
Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed has again mocked President Donald Trump – who has repeatedly hit out at El-Sayed – over his the role of White House aide Natalie Harp.
Harp, 35, a former One America News anchor, has become a figure of significant media interest in recent weeks after a pair of gushing letters were published in which she expressed her devotion to the president, telling him: “You are all that matters to me.”
Speaking at a town hall event in Farmington Hills Wednesday, El-Sayed began his attack on Trump by going after the president’s deliberate mispronunciation of his name.
“Donald Trump, because he cannot resist the red meat, cannot seem to keep my name out of his mouth,” the candidate told his audience.
“Habibi, if you can’t say the name, don’t say the name!,” he declared, using an Arabic term of endearment ironically, before going on to imitate Trump’s mangling of his first name.
“Why you gotta say it like that man? It’s creepy,” the progressive joked, observing that the president “holds onto the ‘l’ a little too long.”
He then broke off to say, “You know, Natalie will show him this clip and he will be so mad,” winning laughter, applause and approving whistles from the crowd.
El-Sayed also invoked Harp on X Saturday, responding to footage of Trump attacking him with the comment: “Natalie, I think he’s had a little too much iPad for the week. He needs his rest.”
Georgia Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff began the ridicule over Harp when he said of Trump at a rally in Atlanta last week: “He doesn’t want to do his job. He wants to build his ballroom and travel with Natalie on their apparently defenseless flying palace gifted by the Emir of Qatar.”
Ossoff’s observation caused a “meltdown” from the White House, which angrily demanded an apology the senator has yet to provide.
The uproar did not deter El-Sayed’s fellow Michiganite, Democratic Rep. Debbie Dingell, from responding to Trump’s threat to rename Lake Ontario Tuesday – amid his heated trade war with Canada – by suggesting rechristening it “Lake Natalie” in Harp’s honor.
El-Sayed also touched on Canada at his town hall, declaring: “Donald Trump doesn’t understand economics. You get money from daddy, become a nepo baby and all of a sudden you think you’re some kind of master businessman.”
He said the president’s new 50 percent tariffs on the neighboring country’s exports “are simply about his ego, and he wants us to have to pay for them” and warned that his Republican opponent in November, Mike Rogers, “will do nothing but rubber-stamp it.”
The Democrat made headlines earlier this week after taking part in a combative interview with Jesse Watters on Fox News in which he asked the anchor if he was circumcised during a lively exchange about whether or not the candidate supported gender-affirming surgery for under-18s.
“I just think the government shouldn’t tell you what kind of healthcare you should have,” the former public health official said on the issue.
“So you think it’s OK for a parent to slash his kid’s ding-a-ling off?” Watters challenged him.
“Do you really want to have this conversation?” El-Sayed answered. “Are you circumcised?”
“Yeah, but I mean that’s a personal question, doctor,” Watters spluttered.
