New Yorkers flee to the coolest pool in town on the hottest day of the year

As temperatures soared during one of the hottest days of the year, heat-weary New Yorkers searched for any excuse to escape the sweltering streets and cool off.
With the city gripped by a summer heat wave that has sent the mercury climbing into the 90s and pushed the heat index even higher, one downtown hotel has become one of Manhattan’s most coveted places to beat the heat.
The Dominick in SoHo has unveiled a new poolside experience just in time for the sizzling summer season, partnering with cult-favorite Vacation Sunscreen to transform a day by the water into a resort-style escape.
The collaboration allows both hotel guests and day visitors to order Vacation’s signature sunscreen products directly to their lounge chairs through a dedicated poolside menu, eliminating the need to leave the deck in search of SPF.
Available products include the brand’s Classic Lotion SPF 30, Classic Whip SPF 30, Super Spritz Face Mist SPF 50 and Chardonnay Lip Oil SPF 30, all designed to keep sunbathers protected while they soak up the rays.
The partnership launched alongside the pool’s seasonal opening on May 18, bringing a retail-meets-resort concept to one of downtown Manhattan’s most sought-after rooftop pools.
Guests looking to cool down can also sip on the Mana Breeze, a specialty cocktail created by The Dominick’s poolside restaurant, El Ta’Koy, and inspired by Vacation’s nostalgic beach-club aesthetic.
The tropical drink blends tequila, hibiscus, triple sec and simple syrup, topped with a Tajín rim and hibiscus garnish, and is served with a complimentary one-ounce bottle of Vacation Classic SPF 30 Lotion.

The launch comes as New York continues to grapple with intense summer temperatures, with forecasters warning residents to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged time outdoors and seek air-conditioned spaces during periods of extreme heat.
Luxury hotels with outdoor pools have increasingly become sought-after urban retreats as city dwellers look for ways to escape the oppressive conditions without leaving Manhattan.
The Dominick, the only independent Five-Diamond hotel in New York City, is known for its skyline views, rooftop pool and luxury amenities, making it a popular destination during the summer months.
For New Yorkers desperate to escape the scorching sidewalks, the combination of a refreshing pool, tropical cocktails and sunscreen delivered straight to their lounge chair may be one of the city’s coolest ways to ride out the heat.
