Perth mum who won a $10million Lotto jackpot in 2018 defies the odds to win again – after following the same weekly routine for years

A Perth retiree has defied the odds for a second time, landing a $200,000 lottery prize eight years after winning a staggering $10million OZ Lotto jackpot.

Even more remarkably, both winning tickets were purchased from the same local newsagency.

The anonymous woman, from Perth’s eastern suburbs, claimed her latest windfall this week after buying a Scratch’n’Win ticket and initially struggled to believe what she was seeing.

‘I thought I must have been seeing things, I kept looking at the ticket because I thought I’d added an extra zero in my head,’ she said.

‘I can’t believe we’ve won twice, what are the chances?’

The woman said she has stuck to the same weekly ritual for years, buying two lottery tickets and two $1 scratch tickets.

She regularly buys them with her adult son who lives at home while recovering from health challenges.

Her latest winning purchase came after her son decided to buy himself a $10 ticket first, prompting her to grab one at the same time so the pair could scratch together.

‘It was meant to be a bonding moment, I really never imagined I’d be celebrating another major prize!’ she said.

The humble mum said she used her life-changing 2018 win to pay off the family home and secure her retirement.

Rather than splashing her latest winnings, she plans to use the $200,000 prize to further support her family and explore opportunities for their future.

‘We don’t need to rush out and buy anything, but this gives us a chance to help our family and learn a bit more about investing for the future,’ she said.

And it appears Western Australia is enjoying something of a lucky streak.

The latest win comes just weeks after Albany twin brothers made headlines by collecting their second major lottery prize, worth $1million, in less than two years.

The 65-year-old brothers were already enjoying the benefits of their February 2025 Set for Life prize, which helped them purchase their sister’s Albany home, when lightning struck for a second time.
