For the first time, a woman will lead the New York Police Department

African American Kishant Exwell will become the first woman to head the New York City Police Department.

It is noteworthy that Exwell’s candidacy was approved by the mayor of New York, who was elected in early November, Eric Adams, who himself was a policeman in the past.

“Kishant Exwell has proven to be an experienced and emotionally intelligent fighter to give New Yorkers the security they need and the justice they deserve,” Adams said.

Kishant Exwell has been in Law Enforcement for the past 25 years. In 2020, she headed the Nassau County Detective Department, the New York State Police Department, having just over 350 people under her command. Now it will serve 52 thousand people under its command.
