Russia begins construction of two Borei-class submarines

In the Sevmash project in 2023, two strategic missile submarines (Project 955A, code Borei-A) will be placed.

A source in the military-industrial complex told TASS, “Next year we expect to sign a contract for the construction of another pair of strategic missile carriers for the Borey-A project. They should be placed at Sevmash in 2023.”

Earlier it was reported that the naval flags were raised on the first serial atomic submarine of Project 885M “Novosibirsk” and the first serial atomic strategic submarine of Project 955A “Knyaz Oleg”.

The flag-raising ceremony was held in Severodvinsk. Russian President Vladimir Putin described the submarine weapon as “a formidable strike force.” He stressed that “Prince Oleg” and “Novosibirsk” will “significantly increase their combat capabilities”, ensure security and reliable protection of national interests in the world ocean.

The Borey-class submarines are capable of carrying 16 Bulava ICBMs and are also equipped with 533 mm torpedo tubes. According to the administration of the military base, “Buri-A” has less noise, better maneuverability and containment systems in the rear, as well as an improved weapon control system.
