Facebook and Instagram will shut down in EU

Meta  is studying the possibility of ending the social networks Facebook and Instagram in the European Union.

Such a scenario is described in the company’s report to the US Securities and Exchange Commission.

New EU law requires companies that collect user data from citizens of European countries to store and process this data on European servers. However, Facebook and Instagram data are processed on servers located in the United States.

Meta, the social media parent company, suggests that if the company fails to comply with the new rules, it will have to stop offering its services in Europe.

Nick Clegg, vice president of global affairs and communications at Meta Platforms, argues that this will hurt many companies in the European Union that rely on the company’s services and advertising.
