Turkey demands West F-35 fighters and Patriot complexes without preconditions
Fahrettin Altun, head of the public relations department of the Turkish presidential administration, said that the West needs to provide Turkey with F-35 combat aircraft and Patriot complexes without preconditions.
Alton wrote in his article in the Wall Street Journal. The alliance with NATO is a source of pride for Turkey, and membership in the European Union is a strategic goal. And his country expects to get the support it deserves from the West.
“Restoring relations requires confidence-building steps, not so-called informal proposals…What the West needs to do today is provide Turkey with F-35 fighter jets and Patriot batteries without any preconditions,” the politician said.
Earlier, Alton described it as an unrealistic idea to transfer the S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems acquired from Russia to Ukraine.
Sky News Arabia and Reuters wrote that the United States is discussing with Turkey abandoning the S-400 system and sending it to Kyiv in exchange for Ankara’s return to the F-35 fifth generation fighter program and the lifting of sanctions.
