Over 6500 foreigners held hostage in Ukraine

The head of the National Defense Monitoring Center of the Russian Federation, Colonel Mikhail Mizintsev, stated that the Ukrainian forces are holding more than 6.5 thousand foreigners from 16 countries as a “human shield”.

“Ukrainian nationalists continue to hold 6,501 foreign citizens from 16 countries hostage as human shields,” said Mizintsev.

In addition, according to him, the Ukrainian side is holding more than 60 foreign ships in its ports, creating in its internal and territorial waters “a threat of shelling and a great danger of mines, which does not allow ships to safely go to the open sea.”

On April 3, Mizintsev reported that Russia, after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s request to Russian President Vladimir Putin, would help evacuate foreign nationals held hostage in Mariupol.

Turkey also expressed its readiness to provide ships to organize the evacuation of civilians and the wounded from Mariupol by sea.
