UN Secretary-General calls for an end to provocations in Jerusalem

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is deeply concerned about the unrest at the Temple Mount in the Old City of Jerusalem and calls for an end to provocations to avoid a worsening of the situation.

“It is necessary to stop the provocations on the Temple Mount in order to prevent further escalation,” Stephane Dujarric, a spokesman for the UN chief, said in a statement.
The Secretary-General is deeply concerned about the deteriorating security situation in Jerusalem.

Guterres also called for maintaining the status quo in areas of the holy sites in Jerusalem.

Earlier, US State Department spokesman Ned Price said the US State Department had called on Israelis and Palestinians to exercise restraint amid riots at the Temple Mount in the Old City of Jerusalem, where Palestinians clashed with Israeli security forces.

Before that, it became known that more than 150 people, and three Israeli policemen, were injured as a result of the riots in Jerusalem on the Temple Mount, and more than 300 people were arrested.
