Erdogan announces plans to create a security corridor on the Syrian border, with a depth of 30 km

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan addressed the mothers of the residents of Diyarbakir who have been camping for 1,000 days and reiterated his plans to create a security corridor several kilometers long along the Syrian border.

According to Erdogan, such a measure would prevent the recruitment of Turkish children by members of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, who “trick” children into joining their ranks.

“We hope that we will soon finish the construction of the 30-kilometer security corridor that we are gradually building along our Syrian border, without specifying the details of Turkey’s new military operation, thus we will completely eliminate the mechanism that raises our children and transports them to the mountains,” Erdogan said.

Diyarbakir is a Turkish city inhabited by a majority of Kurds.

Earlier, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced a military operation in northern Syria. The purpose of the operation is to create the aforementioned 30-kilometer safe zone along the Turkish-Syrian border.

The invasion could target areas controlled by Kurdish militias.
