US bans Biden’s directive allowing transgender people to compete

Tennessee federal judge Charles Echley has temporarily blocked US President Joe Biden’s directive that allowed transgender people to compete in a category that matches their gender identity.

The directive also applies to their visits to locker rooms and toilets.

Echley found that this directive did not comply with some state laws that allow transgender people to play in tournaments.

It was reported earlier that the International Swimming Federation (FINA) is planning to create a category open to transgender people.

The head of the organization, Hussain Al-Musallam, stated that a working group will be formed for the open categories of some FINA competitions. He also emphasized that the union would be the first to take such a step in the international community, and a report on the work done should be submitted within six months.
