Russia allocates $1.5 billion for railway projects in Iran

Moscow will allocate $1.5 billion to develop the International North-South Transport Corridor (ITC), which connects Russia with India via Iran, until 2030. This was stated by Vedomosti with reference to the presentation of the Ministry of Transport and a source close to the department.

It is noteworthy that the Russian Railways will participate in the construction of a line from the city of Astara in Azerbaijan to the city of Rasht in Iran (164 km) and the electrification of the Gramsar-Inchi-Boron line (495 km) in Iran. . It is known that at present, goods are transported between Astara and Rasht by road, which hinders the development of the road.

The MTK project is a 7,200 km multi-modal passenger and cargo route from Saint Petersburg to the Indian port of Mumbai. It is planned to be fully implemented by 2030.

Earlier, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Iran to Russia Kazem Jalali said that Iran could become a hub for transporting goods imported from third countries to Russia.
