'Holding a grudge': Coach's ice cold revenge act
All Blacks great Jeff Wilson has applauded Mick Byrne for keeping receipts and enjoying his revenge in a colourful postscript to the Fijian Drua vs NSW Waratahs golden point epic on Saturday.
Drua coach Byrne – a former AFL player and Wallabies and All Blacks skills coach – wore a Chicago Bulls cap to the press conference in Lautoka after Kemu Valetini kicked the winning drop goal in the club’s historic 39-36 Super Rugby Pacific triumph.
It was a callback to comments made by Waratahs coach Darren Coleman two years ago when he said “it wasn’t like we beat the Chicago Bulls” after a victory against the fledgling Drua in Sydney.

“He’s not just wearing his heart on his sleeve, he’s holding a grudge. And you use that,” Wilson said on The Breakdown, available to stream on Stan Sport.
“When you’re a coach you’ll find whatever works to get a little extra out of your team. The players who were involved would have remembered that. But that’s gold. That’s outstanding.
