Breaking down the big fights

All the fights promise to be exciting, but the following bouts have gathered some some extra interest.

Kayne Cornes vs Nathan Brown

Not one to shy away from controversy, Cornes has admitted that lots of people want to see him get battered by Brown on Wednesday night.

However, boxing icon Danny Green believes Cornes is the ‘most driven’ athlete competing on the night and he will not at all be surprised if Cornes gets his hand raised after the final bell.

At Tuesday night’s weigh-in, the former Power star admitted a South Australian real estate company has paid to have its name on the soles of his boxing boots because that’s where they’ll get the most exposure.

‘My job is to make sure that’s not shown tomorrow night,’ he laughed.

Asked by boxing legend Danny Green what his plan on fight night will be, Brown said: ‘I think we both just want to pay the sport of boxing some respect.’

Cornes looked in far better shape than Brown, who joked that he’s the overwhelming favourite at ‘about $1.10’ to win.

Mitch Robinson vs Kayne Pettifer

Both men are very serious about their training and Green believes this bout will be the best in terms of skill from the footy stars.

‘Petts has been boxing for a long time,’ said Green. ‘Mitch has been boxing for a little while and he loves it, and will continue if he’s victorious.’

Dane Swan vs Dale Thomas

Both men are ultra-competitive and good friends out of the ring.

Swan says he’s the best shape he’s been in for some time and has been training in boxing for many years.

‘I’m not a full-time boxer, I’ve had to juggle it around my lifestyle and three young kids, but I’ve done the work,’ Swan told Daily Mail Australia.

‘I can do four rounds comfortably, its just how many times I get hit. But I’m ready to go.

‘Boxing is one discipline I’ve always enjoyed. I hate running, I haven’t lifted a weight since I was forced to while playing AFL, and swimming bores me.

‘I was meant to fight a couple of years ago but that fell through. I got asked to do this, so it’s time to put your money where your mouth is.’

Jackson England vs Jamel Herring

The pro fighters are competing for the WBO global super featherweight title.

Herring is a former world champ and has been in the ring with some of the biggest names in the business.

England, the Aussie, is an exciting fighter and has come to Adelaide to make a statement against the slick American.

Alex Leapai Jr vs Joe Ageli

Hulking rugby league prodigy Alex Leapai Jr walked away from his NRL contract with the Gold Coast Titans to follow in his legendary father’s footsteps and focus on boxing.

Alex Leapai Snr fought former heavyweight titan Wladimir Klitschko in 2014 for the world title and many are tipping his talented son to go all the way.

‘I’m feeling fit and ready to go,’ Alex Jnr told Daily Mail Australia.
