How many eggs should you eat per day? Here is the experts’ answer

To strengthen our bones, eggs are great allies thanks to their nutrients. You should even eat it every day.

Often blamed for high bad cholesterol levels, eggs are actually excellent for our health. Indeed, to benefit from all their benefits, particularly on our bones, we should eat them every day – or in any case, as often as possible. This is what researchers recommend, who published a study in the journal Food and Function. We then explain to you what the ideal quantity to eat per day is, and how this impacts our health.

How many eggs should you eat every day to have strong bones?

As reported Top Health, this study was carried out on a sample of 19,000 people. It showed that participants who consumed at least 85 grams of whole egg per day, the equivalent of one and a half large eggs, had better bone mineral density. Specifically, it was 72% higher in the femur and 83% higher in the spine, compared to those who did not consume eggs.

Bone fragility can in particular be due to osteoporosis. It’s about a “bone disease which combines both a reduction in bone density and changes in its micro-architecture”, as we can read on the Health Insurance website. Because of this disease, which affects 5% of the population, the risk of fractures is higher. It is distinguished from osteoarthritis, which is in fact the wear and tear then destruction of joint cartilage. Like eggs, other foods have the benefit of strengthening bones.

What are the benefits of eggs?

Eating eggs can therefore have a positive impact on our bones. In fact, these foods contain calcium, which promotes mineralization and slows down the loss of bone tissue. It also contains phosphorus, zinc and magnesium, which strengthen bones. As for vitamin D, also present in eggs, it allows the body to absorb calcium.

Beyond their benefits for our bones, eggs have multiple benefits. First, know that egg white contains a large amount of protein, with 10.5 grams per 100 grams of white. This is why it is often said that an egg can replace meat or fish, although we must always keep in mind that the diet must be varied and balanced. Furthermore, the egg is also a very filling food. If consumed in the morning, for breakfast, it helps avoid cravings in the morning. This is what our British neighbors do for their traditional breakfast, which then allows them to have a lighter lunch.
