Ex-Liverpool wonderkid is released by non-league side Ebbsfleet, as 28-year-old who was once sold for £15m moves on after just one appearance

Former Liverpool star Jordon Ibe has been released by National League side Ebbsfleet United.

Ibe joined The Fleet in October after more than a year outside of football following his departure from Turkish side Adanaspor.

Upon his arrival at the club the winger insisted he was excited to get back on the pitch and expressed his gratitude to manager for their support in his return to the game.

During his brief stint at Stonebridge Road the 28-year-old would make just one league appearance, coming off the bench during the second half against Oldham in February.

Ibe is one of several players not to have been offered new contracts at the end of their deals at the club, as Danny Searle’s side narrowly avoided relegation to the sixth-tier with a draw against Boreham Wood on the final day of the season.

After a stint in Charlton’s youth academy, Ibe began his career at Wycombe and made his senior debut aged just 15 before being snapped up by Liverpool the following year.

In four years at Anfield Ibe made 58 appearances in all competitions and was a regular in Jurgen Klopp’s first season on Merseyside.

His performances led to Bournemouth paying a club-record £15m to bring him to the Vitality Stadium in 2016.

However, Ibe failed to live up to his considerable potential during his time on the south coast, and left the club in 2020 when his contract expired to join Derby.

Ibe would be limited to just one appearance with the Championship club however, and later detailed his struggles with mental health.

In addition to his club exploits, Ibe has also made international appearances at various youth levels for England and turned down an opportunity to switch allegiances and represent Nigeria at senior level in 2015.
