Revealed: Portsmouth fans spread HUMAN ASHES on their pitch in a mid-pitch-invasion ceremony… killing the grass and leaving it damaged for their last game of the season

Two Portsmouth fans reportedly spread human ashes on the Fratton Park pitch during the club’s League One title celebrations – causing damage to the surface.

Thousands of jubilant Pompey fans raced onto the pitch after a 3-2 win over Barnsley on April 16 took the club up into the Championship.

While the majority celebrated with the players and their fellow supporters, the BBC reported that two took advantage of the chaos to conduct their own ceremony.

But because human ashes contain calcium and calcium phosphate – which kill grass – the ground staff had to perform urgent repairs ahead of the home fixture with Wigan Athletic five days later.

The penalty area and centre circle were the affected areas, with scars visible once the crowd had dispersed, the BBC said.

Pictures from the Wigan game showed small patches of green spray paint in the centre circle.

Pompey’s players got their hands on the trophy following the 2-1 defeat to Wigan, with the fans this time remaining in the stands as the team and their families performed a lap of honour.

With no more home fixtures, the Fratton Park pitch will now undergo summer maintenance work ahead of the return of Championship football in August for the first time since 2012.

Police launched an investigation into several suspected offences including theft, criminal damage and racial abuse during Portsmouth’s raucous celebrations after the win over Barnsley.

An O’Neills pub was trashed as players joined fans to celebrate their success, with videos circulated on social media showing Joe Rafferty interrupting a speech by captain Marlon Pack by mooing the audience.

‘We are investigating disorder which happened in Portsmouth following the football,’ Hampshire Police said in a statement at the time.

‘We started to receive calls just before 11pm to reports of disorder ongoing at O’Neill’s pub in Albert Road, Southsea.

‘It is believed around 300 people were present at the time, and we have received reports of a number of offences, including theft, criminal damage and racial abuse aimed at a staff member.

‘The disorder is reported to have continued into surrounding streets, with people present then moving off in reduced groups to other establishments as well.

‘We have also received a report of criminal damage in Drift Bar, and of a man being assaulted in Palmerston Road.

‘Officers attended and remained in the area into the early hours of the morning.’

A video clip shared to social media on Wednesday morning showed the messy aftermath of the party, with the O’Neills bar strewn with broken bottles and cans after the fire alarms were put on to empty the place out.

A huge crowd of fans was seen outside the pub chanting ‘blue army, blue army’ as they looked to continue the celebrations beyond closing time.

‘O’Neills has fallen,’ said the caption accompanying the video, while another tweet read: ‘Think the club are gonna receive an invoice for O’Neill’s btw. Gaff was absolutely trashed last night.’

Pompey star Rafferty shared Instagram clips showing hundreds of fans thronging the streets, climbing on signs and bus shelters while singing a ‘f*** ’em all’ chant about West Ham and Millwall.

Defender Tom McIntyre also shared an Instagram video of fans inside O’Neills chanting ‘bounce around if you’re top of the league.’
