A three-year-old child has died in a house fire in Melbourne’s outer southwest.
Emergency services were called to the blaze on Newbury Street in Werribee just after midnight on Monday, following reports that multiple children were trapped inside a burning house.
‘Sadly, a resident of the home died at the scene, and a second resident remains in hospital with serious injuries,’ Senior Constable Paul Hogan said on ABC radio.
Police said the cause of the fire remains under investigation, with an arson chemist expected to examine the scene.
