Italy recommends its citizens to leave Ukraine

Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio recommended the country’s citizens to leave Ukraine and announced the repatriation of “non-essential employees” of the Italian Embassy in Kiev.

The Minister wrote on Facebook: “I chaired a meeting of the Crisis Center of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, dedicated to the situation in Ukraine. As a precautionary measure, we decided to advise all Italian citizens in Ukraine to return to their homeland by commercial transport and to postpone travel to this country. We also decided to return all non-essential staff in Our embassy in Kiev, which is operating as usual.

Noting that Rome supports resolving tensions over Ukraine through diplomatic means, the foreign minister called on Moscow to look for “concrete signs of détente.”
