Russia withdraws from the Council of Europe

Russia made a decision to withdraw from the Council of Europe, and the decision was handed over from Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to the Secretary-General of the Council of Europe.

According to the deputy speaker of the State Duma, “the decision to withdraw was made in the midst of another anti-Russian debate at PACE, the result of which may be another false anti-Rossophobia decision based on speculations that have nothing to do with reality.”

Tolstoy also said that Russia does not plan to pay an annual contribution to the Council of Europe in 2022. “Due to political pressures and unprecedented sanctions on our country, Russia does not plan to pay an annual contribution to this organization,” wrote the deputy speaker of the State Duma.

He said that the entire responsibility for cutting Moscow’s dialogue with the Council of Europe “lies with NATO countries, which all this time have been using the issue of human rights to achieve their geopolitical interests and attacks” on Russia.
