Finland confirms first suspected case of monkeypox
An adult male is suspected of monkeypox in Finland, if the diagnosis is confirmed, it would be the first case in the country, according to HUS.
Infection in an adult male was recorded on 25 May. He complained of blisters and a high temperature after a trip to Europe.
Doctors diagnosed him with orthopoxvirus, a group of which also includes monkeypox. The exact diagnosis will be known by the end of the week, when doctors receive test results.
WHO chief Richard Peabody said the WHO does not believe that the current outbreak of monkeypox outside the African continent will require an urgent mass vaccination of the population.
Monkeypox is a rare viral infection that can be transmitted between humans. It is usually a mild case and most people recover within a few weeks, but complications can occur for some.
