‘Conversations are continuing,’ Trump calls reports of halted US-Iran talks ‘false and erroneous’

US President Donald Trump on Tuesday dismissed reports claiming that Washington and Tehran had halted communications, insisting that discussions between the two sides were still underway despite mounting tensions in the Middle East.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said reports suggesting that Iran and the United States had stopped engaging were inaccurate.

“Fake News Reports that the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the U.S.A., stopped speaking a few days ago are false and erroneous. The conversations between us have been going on continuously, including four days ago, three days ago, two days ago, one day ago, and today. Where they lead, one never knows, but as I told Iran, ‘It’s time, one way or another, for you to make a Deal. You’ve been doing this for 47 years, and it cannot be allowed to go on any longer!’ President DONALD J. TRUMP,” he wrote.

The statement came hours after conflicting signals emerged over the status of indirect negotiations between Washington and Tehran.

Earlier on Monday, Trump had said talks with Iran were continuing even after Iranian state-linked media reported that Tehran was suspending negotiations following Israel’s order for troops to expand operations deeper into Lebanon.

“Talks are continuing, at a ‌rapid pace, with the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Trump said in an earlier Truth Social post.

Iranian news agency Tasnim had reported that Tehran was halting indirect discussions with the United States amid escalating regional tensions.
