His Eminence Dr. Muhammad Al-Duwaini, Undersecretary of Al-Azhar, said that caring for, supporting and empowering people of determination represents a religious and moral duty and a societal responsibility, stressing that Al-Azhar places this issue at the top of its priorities. The Undersecretary of Al-Azhar conveyed, in his speech during the celebration organized by Al-Azhar Al-Sharif in cooperation with the National Council for Persons with Disabilities: On the occasion of the International Day of People of Determination, the greetings of His Eminence the Grand Imam and his sincere congratulations to his children with disabilities on this occasion, praising the shining examples they provide of patience, determination and excellence, and expressing his thanks to those in charge of this prestigious ceremony, which comes within the framework of achieving Egypt’s Vision 2030, and in implementation of the measures announced by Mr. President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, which stress the necessity of a true understanding of the issues of people with disabilities. determination, providing appropriate educational opportunities that suit their needs, and enabling them to fully benefit from the various opportunities available to them.
His Eminence stressed that the success stories of people with disabilities represent a true source of inspiration for the entire society, directing a message of thanks and appreciation to the parents, who made the effort, endured the difficulties, and were patient in caring for their children, as they were role models of patience and containment, and a symbol of the meanings of strength, perseverance, and hope. And belief in abilities, explaining that Islam in its origins and legislation affirmed that people of determination are honorable subjects, with full human value, and that the legal texts clearly established this meaning, forbade any diminution of their rights, and even ordered the provision of care and support, and facilitating the means for them in various fields.
The Undersecretary of Al-Azhar explained that Islam has set the most wonderful examples in providing comprehensive care for people of determination, working to meet their needs, and giving them Priority in enjoying all rights without discrimination, stressing that the criterion of differentiation in Islam is not strength or physical ability, but rather piety, in accordance with the Almighty’s saying: {O mankind! We have created you from a male and a female and made you into peoples and tribes. That you may come to know each other. Indeed, the most honorable of you in the sight of God is the most pious of you. [الحجرات: 13]. His Eminence stressed that Islam’s care for people of determination is a historical fact that Muslims have lived through. Among them emerged scholars, leaders, and innovators who left a great impact in the fields of science and civilization, despite the disabilities or physical weakness they suffered from. Disability was not an obstacle to excellence, but rather was often a reason for increased wages and higher grades. Therefore, Al-Azhar confirms, through this celebration, that the approach of mercy and justice brought by Islam is still alive and vibrant in the conscience of the nation, and that people of determination have a place in the hearts, and in society a right. There is a protected share in life, stressing that honoring them is a sincere acknowledgment of their rights, and a practical step on the path to fulfilling the values of this great religion.
The Undersecretary of Al-Azhar stated that taking care of people of determination and preserving their feelings is a religious and societal duty, so Al-Azhar gave them special attention, which was evident in overcoming the difficulties facing them, and providing scientific and psychological support, in a way that enhances their ability to learn, integrate, and participate effectively, stressing that the Egyptian state places special attention on people of determination. People of determination are in an advanced position of concern, and state agencies have moved in recent years to ensure that they enjoy all rights on an equal basis with others, and Egypt has witnessed a comprehensive renaissance in the services and facilities provided to them in all fields, based on a firm belief that they are human energy capable of giving and creativity.
Dr. Al-Dwaini pointed out that Mr. President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi supported this trend and implemented it through guidance and implementation. Through clear policies targeting the effective integration of people of determination, ensuring them dignity and fair opportunities, stressing Al-Azhar’s keenness to keep pace with and support this national vision. It opened its doors to people of determination, prepared for them educational programs that suited their abilities and talents, and employed qualified cadres to teach and qualify them, work to highlight their talents, and build educational paths worthy of their ambitions and shaped by their determination and diligence.
His Eminence explained that Al-Azhar, under the leadership of His Eminence the Grand Imam, is keen to provide all means of support and assistance to people of determination at all educational levels; By developing educational systems, providing appropriate means, establishing and developing specialized centers and institutes, in addition to providing the necessary health care. For this reason, Al-Azhar established “insight” centers. A number of branches of Al-Azhar University for those with insight, and they were provided with the latest devices and equipment, in addition to holding courses to teach reading and writing in Braille, and providing prosthetic devices for those in need, in cooperation with the Ministry of Social Solidarity and a number of civil society institutions, as well as providing comprehensive care cards and various services.
The Undersecretary of Al-Azhar concluded his speech by announcing the launch of the “Audio Book” project. On Al-Azhar educational platforms for students of Al-Azhar Institutes who have insight, to facilitate them and reduce the burdens that their families bear in providing means of study and academic achievement. He explained that the project began by launching the audio book for the Tajweed subject for the preparatory stage in the Al-Azhar Institutes sector, as part of an integrated strategy pursued by Al-Azhar Al-Sharif to provide the audio book service in various academic subjects, and at all stages of Al-Azhar pre-university education, in a way that contributes to overcoming the challenges that It confronts students with visions, and provides them with an education that is compatible with modern technologies and achieves the principle of equal opportunities.
