Details of the construction of the Palau pyramids revealed

A team of archaeologists from Germany’s University of Kiel made an archaeological expedition to the island of Palau in order to learn the details of the construction of the large mounds known as the “Pyramids of Palau”.

Archaeologists have determined that the builders used volcanic rock interspersed with large amounts of pottery to form the base of the mounds, raising the upper layers to terraces of humus soil for cultivation.

“For generations and an almost unimaginable amount of work, the people who built this had to move millions of tons of soil. This feat is only possible in a well-organized community,” said Dr. Annette Kohlem, head of the archaeological expedition.

Scholars believe that the “Pyramids of Palau” were built in the 5th century BC.
