Iris Knobloch chosen as the first woman to head the Cannes Film Festival

Iris Knobloch became the first woman to chair the Cannes Film Festival. She will take office on July 1 for a term of three years.

Until 2020 Iris Knobloch has led Warner Bros in France, and has overseen projects in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

Knobloch was a member of the Oscar 2021 committee in France. In Cannes, she will replace Pierre Lisecure, who has held the presidency for the past eight years.

Knobloch commented on the appointment. “France is very honored to take over the presidency of the Cannes Film Festival. I am happy that I can dedicate all my energy to this festival of planetary size.”

The 2022 Cannes Film Festival will take place from May 17-28.
