Swans embroiled in cocaine scandal after police charges

The Sydney Swans are under the microscope after revelations two of its AFLW players were charged by police in the off-season.

9News Melbourne reporter Tom Morris revealed the players were “caught with an illicit substance understood to be cocaine last year”.

Both players received a conditional release after the incident.

The AFL has confirmed it is aware of the incident. Sydney Swans declined to comment.

Morris added club powerbrokers had knowledge of the incident.

“I understand key officials at the Sydney Swans have been aware for some months,” he said.

“This incident, which was not on game day, as a result doesn’t carry the same offence as Melbourne’s Joel Smith.”

The scandal brings into review the AFL’s drug policy after a number of incidents in the past year.
