Washington begins evacuating employees of the Consulate General in Kazakhstan

US authorities have allowed Consulate General employees in Kazakhstan, whose duties are not related to emergency activities, to evacuate with their family members to their home country.

The press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs notes that the situation in the country can change quickly – there is still a risk that transport lines will be disrupted due to protests, communications will be cut off, and the parties to the conflict will resort to violence.

Diplomats warn that “citizens of the United States in Kazakhstan should be aware that the protests could seriously affect the ability of the US Embassy to provide consular services, including assistance to Americans leaving the country.”
