Deadly threat to new strains of COVID-19

British scientists believe the next strain of coronavirus may be more dangerous than previous versions.

Omicron is a different branch of the genealogy of COVID-19 and is not directly related to Delta, epidemiologist Professor Mark Woolhouse of the University of Edinburgh, The Guardian reports, said. In connection with this circumstance, it is not entirely clear where the new version will come from and what characteristics it will eventually have.

“It can be pathogenic in one way or another. After the omicron, there will be more variants, and if it is more contagious, it will dominate. It may turn out to be more lethal or have a more serious negative effect.”
